You Are Not the Only One Asking...

"How can I teach when I don’t even have time to think?"

"How do I keep up with all this change - without losing myself?"

"What happened to the part where we actually connect with kids - not just manage, monitor and deliver?”

You’re Not Broken. The System Is.

  • Time is your scarcest resource – and everyone wants more of it,
  • Expectations shift monthly, but you’re still expected to be ahead,
  • Professional development is overwhelming, irrelevant or invasive,
  • Technology is either banned or pushed arbitrarily – with no connection to your actual needs,
  • Innovation is encouraged… until it threatens comfort or control,
  • Leadership is often rigid, risk-averse or checked out.
You don’t need more pressure or more programs.
You need reflection. Clarity. Community.
A way to move forward that honors where you are – and who you are.

That’s what the Mindshift Spiral is here for.

What Is the Mindshift Spiral?

The Spiral is a framework for personal and professional growth. It is designed for educators navigating the emotional, technological and systemic complexity of teaching today.

We’ve mapped out the journey we see many educators going through - not just in tools or training, but in mindset, identity and emotional clarity.

It helps you:

  • Reflect on your beliefs, your mindset and your patterns
  • Understand where you are – and what’s possible from here
  • Find the right kinds of support without pressure or judgment
  • Shift not just what you do, but how you see yourself as an educator

It’s about giving you the language and tools to grow – on your terms.

Real Transformation Isn't a Straight Line

A real shift in mindset doesn’t come in tidy steps.

You circle back. You deepen. You revisit old questions with more courage and fewer illusions.

The Spiral reflects how we actually change:

  • In cycles
  • Through resistance and curiosity
  • With support, not just strategies

We’ve seen hundreds of educators move through these patterns – not perfectly, but intently.

Your Teaching Posture: Where Transformation Begins

As you move through the Spiral, your teaching posture often shifts - not just in what you do, but in your "image of the learner" and how you see learning itself.
Most educators move among these three core postures:

Directive Teaching
"Deliver the content. Control the outcome."

A traditional, top-down model where the teacher transmits information. Structured, authoritative and efficient - but often disconnected from curiosity, autonomy or deeper engagement.

Guided Meaning-Making
"Create meaning, but stay in control."

More engaging. You bring in creativity, essential questions and thoughtful structure. Learning is richer - but still excessively teacher-directed and rooted in “command and control.”

Co-Creative Learning
"Let learning breathe."

Radically student-centered and grounded in trust. Built around genuine interest, self-organization and shared inquiry. Students engage with real questions and dynamic experiences that mirror the complexity of real life.
You design the space - but what happens in it is shared.
It’s fluid. Messy. Beautiful. And grounded in how the brain actually learns.

These postures aren’t fixed. They reflect context, confidence, and mindset - and they evolve as you grow.

The 6 Phases of the Mindshift Spiral

"It starts with a whisper. A tension.

A need to slow down and breathe again.

And from there, if the space is right, something begins to shift."

Below is a glimpse into this spiral – 6 stages that don’t demand perfection… only presence.

Phase 1. Emergence

“I feel overwhelmed, but something needs to change.”

This is where many educators land. Tired. Curious. Aware that the old ways aren’t working – but unsure what could replace them.

No rush. This is a time for noticing, reflecting, and reclaiming your mental space.

This phase is often marked by Directive Teaching.

Phase 2. Re-orientation

“I want to grow, but I don’t know where to start.”

You’re questioning assumptions and starting to reframe what teaching can be. You’ve seen glimpses -a colleague doing something differently, a post that hits home, a tool that feels empowering.

You’re starting to transition toward Guided Meaning-Making.

This is where new possibilities come into view.

Phase 3. Activation

“I’m trying out new tools and approaches.”

You’re experimenting - with AI, brain-based learning, co-created lessons. Some things work. Others don’t.

But you’re in motion - and that matters more than mastery.

This stage is where confidence builds and curiosity widens.

Phase 4. Integration

“I’m doing the work, but I haven’t fully shifted inside yet.”

You’ve taken courses. You’ve changed practices. But part of you still feels caught between two worlds - the old expectations and your evolving philosophy.

You may still lean on Guided Meaning-Making, but you’re glimpsing the freedom of Co-Creative Learning.

That’s okay. This stage takes time. It is where reflection deepens and values clarify. The right community will help carry you forward.

Phase 5. Transformation

“This is who I am now.”

You’ve made the shift - in mindset, identity and daily practice. It’s no longer just what you do, but who you are.

You teach from clarity, not compliance. You co-create, not just deliver. And even when the system resists, you’ve stopped waiting for permission.

This is where Co-Creative Learning comes alive - curiosity-driven, student-centered, and brain-aligned.

You now need to deepen your practice

Phase 6. The Multiplier

“I want to help others change too.”

Now, you’re mentoring, designing, leading. Maybe that means guiding your peers, launching a project, influencing policy or starting something new.

You’re no longer just surviving education - you’re reimagining and shaping it. You understand what it takes to sustain your growth in a system that hasn’t fully caught up.

You may be at different points across different parts of your practice - and that’s normal.

The Spiral gives you language, reflection and a sense of what’s next.
